THE FUTURE IS OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS

Through various activities bound by a common theme – sustainable development and enhanced comfort – Hitachi strives to create a public infrastructure that serves people living in diverse urban environments around the world. In its social innovation business efforts, Hitachi integrates cutting-edge IT and infrastructure technologies that have been developed over many years to improve safety and security throughout society.

Each year, Hitachi holds its Social Innovation Forum events in select international cities, bringing a distinguished group of external speakers spanning a variety of industry sectors to join Hitachi executives from around the world to provide insight into how Social Innovation Business is poised to create new value, increase efficiency and improve the quality of life for people all over the globe.

There are many examples of how Hitachi companies from across the globe are making exciting steps in the movement of social innovation. Hitachi Chemical has been working with researchers to understand the massive disappearance of honey bees whose disappearance could potentially trigger a worldwide food crisis. Through Hitachi’s development of ultra-small RFID tags that can be attached to honeybees, researchers are able to monitor, track and analyze this phenomenon and develop a plan to turn this situation around.

Hitachi’s advanced technology and solutions in the area of water conservation, water purification and water quality has dramatically increased the quality of life for everyone on the island of Malé in the Maldives through the development of several solutions including the desalination of ground water and the building of a deep seawater utilization system and bottling plant.

The global solutions business of Hitachi, Hitachi Consulting, has worked with AT&T to reduce their environmental impact and realize the significant cost savings that can accompany such initiatives. As a result of the work done by Hitachi Consulting, they were recognized as a 2013 AT&T Supplier Sustainability Award winner.
